Argan Oil: The Indigenous Super-Oil from Morocco

Sponsored content by Dr. Hauschka Germany

Argan Oil has been hyped over the last few years for being a magical beauty ingredient. Not only used as a dietary supplement to heal a fresh wound or provide relief from a rash, it is also known to nourish skin and hair. But there’s more…

Where Does Argan Oil Come From?

Sometimes also referred to as “Moroccan Oil”, argan oil comes from the argan tree, which is growing in the southwest of Morocco, an area mainly populated by Berber communities. But not just the Moroccans take pride in the trees, they are globally revered and so the Argan Forest was declared a Biosphere Reserve by the UNESCO two decades ago.

How is Argan Oil Made?

The oil is extracted from the little nut inside the fruit. The production consists of various steps starting with the harvest and collection of the seeds. They are often left on the ground by the goats who eat the fruit (Note: If you see goats on a tree in Morocco, don’t be alarmed – they love climbing the argan trees!). The seeds are picked and further taken to process. It continues with the drying of the kernels, grinding them and finally pressing them to extract the maximum amount of oil. The leftovers are fed to the goats again.

  1. How can I use the Argan oil itself on my face please? I bought the ” Softto plus” oil , and it is written on the package that it is for hair while the lady at the shop told me that it is for the skin, and this is why I bought it. And now I do not know how to use it. It is available in a dropper of 50 ml.

    1. Hi Samar, thank you for your comment. I do not know the “Softto plus” oil myself, but in general argan oil can be applied directly to the skin, yes. It is completely natural and has softening and hydrating effects. You can also apply it to you hair as a conditioner to moisturise it. I hope this helps 🙂
